Public Policy
Creating Public Policy Through LSU
As committee chair, I led approximately 15 senators each week through the initiatives they created and executed throughout the school year. I would connect them with administration and resources on campus to improve their efforts to complete the legislation to make LSU a better place for students. I personally wrote over 20 bills during my time in the Senate including but not limited to the LSU Food Pantry, gender equity, and increased service-learning courses.
In this role, I learned how to work with others to create and pass bills by finding common ground with fellow senators to get legislation passed. I gained a passion for mentorship and the LSU community in this role.
Houston Mayor's Office
Researching Public Policy for the City of Houston
The Houston Economic Development Department works to develop, implement, and manage citywide policies and procedures to increase growth to make Houston a metropolitan powerhouse.
As a summer intern, I worked with the Economic Development Department of the Houston Mayor's Office. I participated in daily meetings, paged materials to post for public meetings laws, and researched Hurricane Harvey. I learned about Tax Increment Reinvestment Zones (TIRZ), Historic Site Tax Exemptions, and Opportunity Zones.
I researched Hurricane Harvey's impacts on Houston and presented my findings to the Economic Development Director. She used the research for future projects within the department. Another project at the department involved improving food deserts across Houston through grocery delivery services.
In this role, I learned about the day-to-day work of city officials and how they handle systematic issues for everyday people.

In this role, I networked with other businesses at the co-working space and was able to practice my elevator pitch for future networking opportunities. At the Odom Consulting Group, I made large strides in my professional development within Houston.
